This suave number run by a group of ladies boasts one of the most agreeable settings in Honiara. Picture a lovely waterfront location and soul-stirring views of Savo. The tropical décor is easy on the eye, with wooden furnishings, thatched roof and candlelit tables - alfresco dining doesn't come any better than this (it's BYO).
Choose between copious breakfasts, a parade of bountiful pizzas (served from 16:00 ), omelettes, daily specials chalked up on the blackboard, and melt-in-your-mouth homemade cakes. And don't get us started on the fruit salad with honey and yoghurt. Vegetarians should enjoy the crunchy 'garden salad' served in a traditional wooden bowl. It's such a shame that the service is so slow. Has wi-fi. - Lonely Planet - latest Solomon Islands guide
'....the Raintree Cafe is on the ocean at Kakabona 10 minutes drive west of downtown, laid back atmosphere with cool thatched open-air dining area..' - The Wilderness Lodge, Marovo Lagoon
'We visited the Raintree cafe and had yummy banana pancakes for breakfast.' - The Warrior family, May 2008
'...to see the beautiful side of Honiara, try breakfast at Raintree cafe,' - AntonyRobinson, Nurse, Honiara
Rain Tree Cafe, is literally right on the water, two adjoining decks are lapped by the waves as we sit under a thatched roof and have our brunch. Service is slow, but the food and coffee is good, you do not mind waiting as you enjoy the view and the breeze. It only sits about 12 and gets very busy on Sunday morning we are told. It is the first turning after White River.- Gus, September 2007
The bed and breakfast:
'I had a wonderful time staying at Raintree and would just like to say a big thank you to Mary and all the girls for making my stay such an enjoyable one. You have a really magic spot there and I will definitely be back. I think you have the most comfortable beds in Honiara! Than you again for everything.' - Sheryl Scott, Australia, July 2009
'Ireally loved all the small touches in the rooms - a lot of thought and care has gone into them. The girls made me feel so at home and gave me a farewell when I left. It was a highlight of being in Honiara and I will reallymiss Rain Tree.' - Yurgen, 2008
The rooms are relaxing and comfortable. The staff really look after you even if sometimes they are not that experienced - but make you feel like they care about you. It felt very safe and much better than an air con and soul less hotel room. The breakfasts on the sea front are delicious, a great way to start the day, and its a good place for quiet meetings. Wireless internet in the rooms is really useful. - Stefan
White river now more quiet! We are pleased to report that the illegal white river market close to Rain Tree has now been closed down by the authorities. The result is that it is now a lot quieter on the street and in our neighbourhood than it used to be and there is much reduced drunkenness and noise. Many nights are now blissfully quiet with only the sound of the waves!
We do feel you are safe staying with us and we will look after you while you are here and you will appreciate the beautiful environment and friendly welcome.
